Inspired by castle-exploring, monster-killing video games, Fortress Charge™ will offer players a reel spinning experience unlike anything they have ever seen before. The new pokies game, which is due for release on June the 11th 2020, was created by Crazy Tooth Studio, a developer known for its innovative approach to the genre.
We’ve seen a teaser of Fortress Charge, and we must say that we were suitably impressed! The new game certainly fits into the video slot genre, but it manages to avoid all of the elements and features that have become cliché. Rather, the slot created for Microgaming uses the Reel Quest mechanism to bring the worlds of online slots and video games even closer together.
Fortress Charge isn’t about seeing like symbols form winning combinations. Instead, winning potential payouts depends on whether various hero characters are successful in their tasks. It’s gamification at its ultimate, and the potential rewards up for grabs are just as good too.
Heroes And Villains
The 6 reels and 3 paylines of Fortress Charge bring popular video games to mind, and they are fittingly populated by heroes, villains, accessories, and more. While not every symbol that lands on the reels offers potential payouts, they all contribute something to the game.
The Beast hero can defeat the Ogre villain, and the Dragon hero can defeat the Ogre and Spikes villains. The Elf hero can claim victory over the Scorpion villain, and the Dwarf hero can beat the Boulder villain. The Knight hero can defeat the Scorpion and Snake villains.
The Ogre can defeat the Elf, the Dwarf, and the Knight, and the Scorpion can defeat the Beast, the Dragon, and the Dwarf. The Spikes defeat the Beast, the Elf, the Dwarf, and the Knight, and the Boulder is victorious over the Beast, the Dragon, the Elf, and the Knight. The Medusa-like Snake villain defeats the Beast, the Dragon, the Elf, and the Dwarf.
The Fortress Charge accessories include a fire potion, a spear, a wooden shield, a shiny shield, and a magic wand. Each accessory can help heroes defeat villains against which they ordinarily would be powerless. For example, the wooden shield defeats the Scorpion. The wooden chest and the three castles offer coin prizes, and the empty platforms assist the heroes.
The castle with the red flags offers the largest payouts, while the one with the yellow flag offers the smallest of the castle payouts. The Snake is the most valuable of the villains. The 2x Multipliers multiply subsequent payouts.
A Quest for Wins
The Reel Quest feature is central to the Fortress Charge gameplay. Spinning the reels results in villains, accessories, and other symbols land on the reels. However, it’s essential to see hero symbols land in the leftmost position on a payline, otherwise the other symbols will not be of much use.
If a hero does land on the position on the far left, he will begin to advance. If he encounters an accessory, he will collect it. If he encounters a wooden chest, he collects a coin prize and advances. If he encounters a villain and is able to defeat it, he will collect a prize and advance. If he encounters a castle, he collects a coin prize and does not advance. If he is defeated by a villain, he does not advance. The hero can collect up to 4 2x Multipliers to create a 16x Multiplier.
Fortress Charge has Fireball feature that can be triggered when one of the heroes advance across a payline. If the feature does trigger, the fireball will destroy any villains in the hero’s path. The hero can still collect the payout awarded by the defeated villain.
Prepare for Attack
You can play Fortress Charge for between 0.10 and 10.00 per spin, depending on the value assigned to the game coins. The game has a high volatility, and an RTP of 96.45%. The hit frequency was found to be 12.32%.
Honestly, we were not expecting to see an online slot that retains the basic elements of slot machines while offering gameplay that is so wildly different to anything we’ve seen. No special skills are required, of course, because the results are determined by RNG.
Fortress Charge goes live at Vegas Palms Casino on 11 June and players will be able to try it out on desktop or mobile device.
